A strong sign for the future of manufacturing in the Hunter

Beyond Zero Emissions welcomes this week’s announcement by Tomago Aluminium to switch to renewables.

Beyond Zero Emissions’s Hunter Engagement Lead Sam Mella said:

“Powering Tomago Aluminium with 100% renewable energy is a strong sign for the future of manufacturing in the Hunter. This will keep our local industry competitive in the global market and reinforces our vision to establish the Hunter as the first Renewable Energy Industrial Precinct in Australia.

“Tomago’s commitment shows the potential for the Hunter to become the electric motor of the Australian economy and the importance of meeting customer demand for a zero-carbon future.

Economic analysis by Beyond Zero Emissions demonstrates that establishing a Renewable Energy Industrial Precinct in the Hunter paves the way for industry to create jobs and a strong diversified economy by 2032. This will make it easier and faster for Tomago to move to 100% renewable energy.

“Building on our strengths in mining, energy and manufacturing means the Hunter can remain a significant global energy hub in the post-carbon era, powered by 100% renewable energy.

“We need to see the fast-tracking of the Hunter Renewable Energy Zone, the enabling legislation for our local offshore wind developments and federal support for a Renewable Energy Industrial Precinct, and local planning to bring it to life. This will give the Hunter industry the clean and competitive electricity they need to grow and create jobs.”

Beyond Zero Emissions Hunter Engagement Lead Sam Mella is available for interviews or to write editorials.
