EV Charging Stations

Increasing range confidence and enabling zero-emission transport

Sufficient chargers help to reduce range anxiety

To ensure a seamless adoption of EVs, there must be plenty of recharging locations. Chargers allow electric vehicles to draw electricity from the grid, storing it as chemical energy in the vehicle's battery. The availability of public chargers is essential whenever people are unable to recharge at home. Ensuring many chargers are publicly available in places where people park during the day will increase confidence that the growing national EV fleet can charge up on solar energy during the day.

Bidirectional chargers can power the electricity grid

Although EVs require significant power, they also have the capability to return it to the grid when necessary. New chargers support bidirectional charging, allowing EVs to charge with solar during the day and feed electricity back to the grid during periods of high demand. Ensuring many public chargers are available in numerous parking locations will increase confidence in supporting EV infrastructure. This will help balance supply and demand in the grid, enabling more utilisation of existing renewables at a lower cost.

Australia is playing catch up

Currently, we have approximately one charging station per 35 EVs, contrasting with the world average of 10. To ensure an adequate number of charging stations as our EV stock expands, Australia must strive to not only match, but surpass the global standard.

The following products and services are ready right now to play their part in Australia’s transition
